Conagen Announces Appointment of Synthetic Biology and Biomanufacturing Thought Leader, Dr. Ramon Gonzalez, to its Scientific Advisory Board.

 

Bedford, Mass. (April 30, 2020) – Boston-based biotech Conagen welcomes science scholar and business leader Dr. Ramon Gonzalez as a distinguished member to its Scientific Advisory Board (SAB).

Dr. Gonzalez brings to Conagen subject matter expertise on engineering metabolism for green chemicals and pharmaceutical products. His arrival to Conagen is very timely as the company seeks to drive its continued growth into affordable drugs and sustainable production of green specialty chemicals from renewable inputs.

He is currently a professor and “Florida’s 21st Century World Class Scholar” at the Department of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of South Florida. At the university, he leads the laboratory for Metabolic Engineering and Biomanufacturing where groundbreaking techniques are changing the way scientists isolate precious molecules from nature for a variety of applications.

“I’m personally excited by the possibilities which can be explored when science and nature are considered together. The bioengineering community is uncovering innovative ways to help manufacturers rapidly produce sustainable and cost-effective products. Conagen is an example of this industry leadership, and I am proud to serve as an adviser on the Scientific Advisory Board,” said Dr. Gonzalez.

Among his research accomplishments, Dr. Gonzalez’s work is published in high-impact scientific journals. He is the lead inventor of 25 patents/patent applications and has co-founded co-founded several biotechnology start-ups.

In addition to his industry and bioengineering expertise, Dr. Gonzalez is a science communicator. He is editor-in-chief of Journal of Industrial Microbiology & Biotechnology (JIMB). Also, he has contributed to the following editorial boards: Science, Applied & Environmental Microbiology, Biotechnology Journal, Metabolic Engineering Communications, and Applied Biochemistry & Biotechnology.

Conagen’s Scientific Advisory Board comprises leaders in the fields of synthetic biology, biochemistry, plant science, and microbiology, all of whom are top faculty at leading universities.
