Products we make.
Flavonoids and Phenolics.
Conagen manufactures a number of phenolics and flavonoids. Our platforms for biosynthesis of these molecular classes can be adapted to make many individual natural products. Flavonoids are biosynthesized by plants and fungi as secondary metabolites, and comprise a diverse group of phytonutrients. They (along with carotenoids) give fruits and vegetables their vivid colors. They also offer powerful antioxidant, nutritional, anti-inflammatory, and immune system benefits. Our phenolic compounds are used in natural colors, scents, flavors, and as natural preservatives for foods.
Dihydroquercetin, pyrroloquinoline quinone, catechins, and curcuminoids are some of the flavonoid and phenolic products manufactured by Conagen. Among their applications, the flavonoids and phenolic compounds we’ve developed are used in dietary supplements, cosmetics, and functional beverages.
Expanding on the example of dihydroquercetin (DHQ), this water-soluble bioflavonoid, naturally found in fruits and vegetables, is used in many consumer product applications. Dihydroquercetin seeks and neutralizes free radicals in the body, and its unique molecular structure makes it especially effective at preventing cellular damage. In fact, it even induces other antioxidant enzymes to take preventative action as well. It protects cells, and stimulates collagen and elastin production in the skin. In addition to healthy aging and anti-inflammatory properties, it offers skin rejuvenation benefits in skincare and cosmetic products. There is evidence showing that DHQ also promotes internal healing after internal or external bodily injury.
As a food and beverage ingredient, dihydroquercetin offers improved color stability for beverages, extends shelf life, and enhances flavor.
